Godolphin has announced that Spolini will not play as scheduled in Melbourne Cup G1 after the Victoria Supervisors decided to withdraw the four-year-old from the race on veterinary advice.

There were signs of pain on Dabawi's son at the end of the week. A cross-section of the horse at the University of Melbourne's horse clinic revealed some bruises in the right front leg bone.

"Of course we are frustrated that Spolini is not taking part in Melbourne Cup, but the priority for horse health and well-being is always a priority, and we recognize that we must comply with the regulations of racing authorities around the world," said Appleby.

"The head of Victoria's veterinarian Grace Forbes and the Victoria supervisors decided that Spolini should be withdrawn from the competition and we respect their decision. Fortunately, we still have a candidate who has a real chance in the race, Cross Counter," he said.
